  The Doctrine of God

Knowledge of the Holy
A.W. Tozer
An Inspiring Classic on the Nature of God. What is the nature of God? How can we recapture a real sense of God's majesty and truly live in the Spirit? This beloved book, a modern classic of Christian testimony and devotion, addresses these and other vital questions, showing us how we can rejuvenate our prayer life, meditate more reverently, understand God more deeply, and experience God's presence in our daily lives.

Knowing God
J.I. Packer
This book will certainly be a twentieth-century classic. Packer provides a moving introduction to the nature of God in Scripture. His faithful insights will repeatedly challenge young and old Christian alike. 286 pages.

The Attributes of God
Arthor Pink

A.W. Pink does an excellent job of portraying God's attributes from a Biblical perspective. Although this book is very concise and easy to read, it is packed with Scripture, and will impact any serious Christian reader with a view of God that demands his/her whole-hearted reverence, adoration, love, and worship. I strongly recommend this book to any Christian. Having a Biblically accurate view of God and His attributes is absolutely essential to the Christian life and faith.

Doctrine of the Knowledge of God
John Frame

The Lordship of God is so central to Christian thinking. Here Frame carefully aims to develop a thoroughly biblical understanding of all the primary questions regarding our knowledge of God -- justification, logic, evidence, faith, and more. This is critical reading for college students and pastors. 437 pages.

The Existence and Attributes Of God
Stephan Charnock

The chief authority on the subject of God's existence and attributes since 1682, this foundational study works carefully through God's existence, eternity, immutability, omnipresence, knowledge, wisdom, power, holiness, goodness, dominion, and patience. Inspirational as well as scholarly reading! 1152 pages.

The Sovereignty of God
A. W. Pink
Who controls this world? God or the Devil? Pink asks this in this introductory study of the sovereignty of God. To relieve the panic-stricken believer Pink's answer encourages us to " Fear not! . . . all things are working together for good to them that love God . . . " Quoting freely from Scripture he searches the Scriptures and tackles the profoundest questions, responding in language written for the ease and interest of any layperson. 261 pages.

God is King
Tom Wells

Tom Wells handles an important yet difficult doctrine, the sovereignty of God, in an intimate and readable style. In Part I he deals with God's supreme rule over all his creation, including wicked men and Satan. In Part II he handles God's relationship and response to sin. In Part III he explains how a right understanding and an application of this truth give Christians confidence in making decisions, and comfort while living in a fallen world.

This book would be especially helpful to those just being introduced to the central biblical doctrine of the sovereignty of God.

The Mystery of Providence
John Flavel

"To God who performs all things for me." Based upon these words in Psalm 57:2, Flavel begins this proven classic by bringing forth evidences that all the affairs of Christians in this world are "certainly conducted by the wisdom and care of special providence."

With striking illustrations from the Scriptures, church history, and his own rich religious experiences, he magnifies and adores God's unerring providence in the birth, upbringing, conversion, sanctification, and preservation of His blood-bought children.

Our Triune God

Difficult Doctrine of the Love of God
D. A. Carson

At first thought, understanding the doctrine of the love of God seems simple compared to trying to fathom other doctrines like that of the Trinity or predestination. Especially since the overwheling majority of those who believe in God view Him as a loving being.

But that is precisely what makes this doctrine so difficult. The only aspect of God's character the world still believes in is His love. His holiness, His sovereignty, His wrath are often rejected as being incompatible with a "loving" God. Because pop culture has so distorted and secularized God's love, even many Christians have lost a biblical understanding of it and , in turn, lost a vital means to knowing who God is.

The Difficult Doctrine of the Love of God seeks to restore what we have lost. In this treatment of many of the Bible's passages regarding divine love, noted evangelical scholar D.A. Carson not only critiques sentimental ideas such as "God hates the sin but loves the sinner," but provides a compelling perspective on the nature of God and why He loves as He does. Carson blends his discourse with discussion of how God's sovereignty and holiness complete the biblical picture of who He is and how He loves.

In doing away with trivialities and cliches, this work gets to the hears of this all-important doctrine from an unflinching evangelical perspective. Yet is does so without losing its personal emphasis: for in understanding more of the comprehensive nature of God's love declared in His Word, you will come to undersand God and His unending love for you more completely.

The Forgotten Trinity: Recovering the Heart of Christian Belief
James White
An excellent modern treatment of this complex doctrine from an orthodox perspective. Dr. White is perhaps one of the most brilliant Christian apologists ever. Highly recommend with enthusiasm!

Almighty Over All
Understanding the Sovereignty of God

R. C. Sproul Jr.
Understanding God's power and sovereignty helps us perceive our own weaknesses and ultimate dependence upon him. Our faith is grounded and established by what we believe(or don't believe) God is able and willing to do for us.

In Almighty over All pastor and writer R. C. Sproul Jr. methodically addresses various aspects of God's strength and how a thorough understanding of his sovereignty adds richness and peace to our lives. God is ultimately in control, Sproul asserts, from the tiniest details to the essential implications of salvation throughout eternity.

Sproul explains that God's unchanging being is the source of his strength. God has proven this sovereignty throughout history, and through his Word he reveals his strength and control as it relates to sin, the problem of evil, small details of life, Satan, salvation, sanctification, and eternity.

Those undergoing suffering will benefit greatly from Sproul's assertions about the purpose of pain in our lives and how God is still in loving control of all that happens to us. Almighty over All also holds key insights for those uncertain of their salvation.

The Fountain of Life
John Flavel
Written in the 1600's. In The Fountain of Life the full glory of Christ is presented, encompassing the original glory of our Lord; His mediatory offices of prophet, priest, and king; and the final glory of His victorious resurrection and ascension. This volume therefore comprises both a comprehensive and clear statement of christology and a heartwarming devotional classic since, in the author's words, "The Fountain of Life was written in a time of great distractions (persecutions)."

On the Incarnation of Our Lord
Athanasius

The Final Word: A Biblical Response to the Case for Tongues and Prophecy Today
O. Palmer Robertson
Though brief, this work is one of the finest books that we can recommend on the whole subject of tongues and prophecy. Robertson brings true scholarship and a gracious spirit to this discussion, but he is absolutely uncompromising on the fact that prophecy must be regarded as direct revelation from God. He shows the blessings of having a completed canon and what it means in practical terms that revelation has ended. Includes a critique of Grudem's defense of prophecy. Excellent, non-technical writing.
